    Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine #1

It's been a while since I blogged anything here. I've been in a bit of a funk, but that's all over now as the power of comics has cured me! I've been reading lots of comics lately and it's got me in the mood to review. So expect to see more comic reviews here soon.

This week saw the debut of Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine #1 a new ongoing series starring the two most under-exposed characters in the Marvel Universe. Seriously, I didn't think we needed another Spidey or Wolverine book, but at least it's not another Deadpool book!

As much as I thought I wouldn't like this book, I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next issue. It features our two eponymous heroes lost in time due to mysterious circumstances and was definitely fun to read. Writer Jason Aaron (whose Punishermax title I'm enjoying immensely) makes our two heroes into a super-powered odd couple who really don't seem to like each other very much.

We don't get much explanation yet as to why they've been thrust back in time, but the pacing was brisk and fun and the pencils by Adam Kubert were solid and accomplished. I can't give away much more except to say that if you like either character, you should definitely give ASMAW #1 a read. I give it a B+.

Legendary DC Comics artist/editor/vice-president Dick Giordano died at the age of 77. He was highly regarded and respected in the industry and by fans. While he was best known for his time at DC, Giordano also worked for or helped to found Marvel, Charlton, Continuity, and most recently, Future Comics in 2004. He was known for his tireless work ethic and his love of comics.

    million dollar comics

By now you've probably heard the news that a CGC graded copy of Action Comics #1 recently sold for a million smackers to an unnamed party who clearly has more money than he or she knows what to do with. While this is clearly an important comic and a piece of Americana, it's definitely not that great of a comic to read.

This got me thinking about all of the great comics I've read over the years and what they're worth to me. As much as I love graphic novels, there's still something about a well-executed single comic that drives me wild! So, price guide aside, here's the single comic that's worth a million bucks to me:

It's got a great story by Bob "Flaming Carrot" Burden and beautiful artwork by the legendary Art Adams, and can still be found languishing in quarter bins all over. If you ever spot one, snap it up quick, you're in for a treat!

Do you have a favorite comic that's worth a million bucks to you? If so, email me at million@hijinxcomics.com and tell me why. I'll be picking some of my favorites to post on this blog and my favorite will win a free dollar bin shopping spree at Hijinx!
